Emission Monitoring

emmissions-header

Scrubber exhaust gases with approximately 15mg/m3 particulate emission level, compared of a limit of 150mg/m3

Emission Monitoring

Stack emission monitoring is used to determine the levels of solid, liquid and gaseous contaminants being emitted from industrial process plant.

These measurements are generally required for compliance to the legal requirement of operating in accordance with the process permit.  This permit is issued by the local regulatory authority such as the local council or Environmental Agency.

The permit is issued with regard to the applicable Process Guidance Notes which are issued by Defra in association with the Environment Agency.  We provide a full report in accordance with these Notes and other special conditions which are applied from time to time.

We carry out such measurement on such diverse processes including:

  • Animal feeds dryers
  • Biomass boilers
  • Combustion processes
  • Gas turbines
  • Incinerators
  • Laboratory fume cupboards
  • Maggot breeding
  • Peat kilns
  • Scrap lead furnaces
  • Synthetic protein production

Measurements are carried out in accordance with:

Technical Guidance Note M1
Technical Guidance Note M2

And the relevant international standards e.g.

Total particulate   BS EN 13284-1
Amines    BS EN 13649
Dioxins    BS EN 1948
Lead, nickel   BS EN 14385
Nitrogen oxides   BS EN 14792
Oxygen   BS EN 14789
Sulphur dioxide   BS EN 14791
VOCs   BS EN 13649

Applications include

  • Dryer exhaust gases
  • Gas turbine exhaust
  • Combustion processes
  • Carbon fibre production exhaust gases containing hydrogen cyanide

Filter samples from a scrap lead furnace

Filter samples from a scrap lead furnace containing particulates, lead and dioxins. Emission limits are 20 mg/m3, 2 mg/m3, and 1 ng/m3 (=10-6 mg/m3). (1 mg/m3 is about 1 millionth of an ounce per cubic foot). Filter samples from a scrap lead furnace containing particulates, lead and dioxins.
